Breaking down to build back up

Amy and Jorjia – night one of UYP Mastermind

Mom and I are at a Mastermind in Las Vegas right now and it is incredible.

I am excited and exhausted. My cup is full and so is my notebook. And as I am writing this post I am so done ‘peopling’.

The last 48 hours – I have been pushed to, and pushed past my limits.

I have laughed, cried and felt the full spectrum of emotions. I am so grateful.

One of the things that we have talked about is how breakdowns often precede breakthroughs. So if we can learn to look at our breakdowns as opportunities to learn from, instead of things to ignore or sweep under the rug – then we are able to take advantage of pursuing the breakthrough.

This idea makes sense to me – because I know that to build muscle, we need to push our muscles to the point of failure so that they can rebuild stronger.

This can seem daunting, because no one really wants to deal with the pain of a breakdown. However – who doesn’t love a good breakthrough?

Breakdowns, failures and mistakes are just opportunities to learn.

Our perspective on these moments is generally one of fear, avoidance and judgement. But that is so far off base. The only way I can really avoid having any failures, mistakes and breakdowns would be to never do anything that matters.

I am unwilling and unavailable to live that life.

So, I will push myself. I will strive to do better everyday and I will welcome the mistakes, failures and breakdowns as signs that I am moving in the right direction.

I will stop accepting my own excuses and my own weaknesses. I will learn to tell a different story – and I will surround myself with people who are doing the same.

What was your favorite breakdown/breakthrough?

Here’s to pushing forward, together.

XO, Jorjia
