What If We Never Ask?

Hey, what’s your agenda like tomorrow? I was wondering if you would like to get together for lunch and a visit?

The immediate response was sure, sounds great!

But what if I never asked?

Today we are all rushing from here to there and doing so many things, juggling life and career and relationships.

But what if I never asked?

There is a too late. We all have just 24 hours in a day, and we need to make the most of them.

But what if I never asked?

Relationships are generally a signal of how one’s life is going; if their relationships are healthy, oftentimes so are the other areas in their life.

But what if I never asked?

Is there a connection? If so, then why aren’t we spending more time on relationship enhancing?

But what if I never asked?

I have been learning lately that it isn’t that friends and family don’t want to spend time together – it’s that no one ever asks.

But what if I never asked?

Stop and think about it. How often have you thought about someone, but didn’t call or check in because you thought they may be too busy? Or because the last time you did, they didn’t answer or maybe even didn’t call back. Did you try again? Or did you allow offense into the relationship – without even letting them know why you have drifted away?

But what if I never asked?

I have heard people say how much they would love to see ‘so and so’. But they don’t want to interfere, and they are just waiting to hear from them – inviting them.

But what if I never asked?

See, tomorrow we are having my aunts over for lunch. What I realized when I texted them is that if I never asked – they may not have asked me. They certainly wouldn’t have asked for tomorrow – and I don’t know my schedule for next week yet – so if they had asked for then, it may have been a no.

But what if I never asked?

If I never asked, then my mom wouldn’t be excited and looking forward to a visit.

But what if I never asked?

Then I would have missed out on the joy of seeing them together and laughing and reminiscing.

But what if you never ask?

Ponder this for a moment – simply spending time with someone that you enjoy being around is healthy not just for yourself, or even the other person – it’s healthy for anyone you both have contact with. The energy created with positive experiences like that flow out and around us.

But what if you never ask?

Taking time out to contact someone about visiting for an hour or so makes their day. It makes people feel seen, important and special.

But what if you never ask?

Studies show that we are becoming more and more technology dependent. This lifestyle of ‘social media’ friends is leaving us feeling alone and unfulfilled.

But what if we never ask?

Our parents are aging, so are our grandparents, aunts and uncles. Dare I say it, but our siblings, cousins and friends are aging too. Time is of essence.

But what if we never ask?

The world continues to spin, life goes on, but if we are intentional – who can we impact?

But what if we never ask?

Will the art of conversation and community and good old fashioned chat fests become a thing of the past? Will our children know how to sit and shoot the breeze?

Not if we never ask.

It blew my mind that I almost got scammed. Not that I believe that I am better than others that have gotten scammed, actually it is more so that I doubt the ‘to good to be true’ so much that sometimes I know I miss opportunities. This time though, I did the research and while…

Have you ever been talking with someone, sharing something with them, and when you asked them a question, their answer seemed way off?
