5 Tips for a Happy Holiday Season

It is that time of year again! The holidays are right around the corner and you can feel it in the air.

I love this time of year, Christmas is my favorite holiday and always has been. I love the feeling in the air, the magic of the lights and giving gifts. I love the chance to celebrate the birth of Christ.

However, I do notice that this time of year – many people tend to be quite tense as the holidays approach. I understand this, for many people this is a time where they are reminded of the family members that are no longer with them, or their increasing load of debt, and their long list of things that they need to accomplish before the end of the year. I understand this, so I decided to put together a short list of things that I try to practice in order to help myself and those that I come into contact with to have a happy holiday season. (Of course, these things can be implemented anytime throughout the year, but they are increasingly needed during the Christmas season)

  1. SMILE!

Smiles really are contagious, guys. Seriously, try it out. I dare you to give a genuine smile to at least one person per hour every day until the new year – then write to us and tell me how it went for you. This is a really big deal and it makes all the difference.

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff

I was actually reminded of this today when I witnessed a fight break out over two men who thought that they were next in the line to pay. Personally, I try not to waste my energy over things that won’t matter a week from now, much less a year from now. I try to look at the bigger picture when I start to get upset over something – is it really a problem or is it just my ego? Try to respond rather than react. Think it through.

  1. Do something kind daily

My friend reminded me of this today. She said that we should do something kind and selfless at least once a day. Guys, we were created to serve and love others. I feel the best when I am doing something to help someone else.

  1. Stop and smell the flowers

This time of year, it is so easy to rush around trying to get everything accomplished. We should remember to take the time to observe the beauty around us, this is imperative. Otherwise, it will all be over before we know it and the only memories we will have will be of the stress we endured. Take time to make positive memories – life is short don’t let the moments slip by.

  1. Budget

It is so easy to jump into debt for gifts and things that we ‘just have to have’. Don’t make purchases on emotion. Sleep on it. Plan out your purchases and live within your means – even during Christmas time.

Hopefully this has been as helpful for you as it is for me!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
